Third age problems and the natural treatment with Chinese Medicine / By Effi Kfir L.Ac - acupuncture clinic in Tel Aviv Phone : 054-4804538

The third age, or the golden age, is a beautiful combination of words to describe merely old age. The body shows signs of "natural wear and tear" which are weakness of qi and blood and diseases of childhood and adulthood flourish again.
Natural treatment of the problems of the third age according to Chinese medicine will concentrate on problems such as: diabetes and vision problems, exhaustion, decrease in bone density and fractures, strengthening the kidney system and the immune system (with the desire to avoid dialysis treatments), preventing the pathology of waking up to urinate at night (nocturia), digestive problems and difficulty in bowel movements, strengthening the blood and nutrition to prevent anemia, problems that cause a heart attack or heart rhythm disorders, preventing heart attack and cerebrovascular accident (CVA), AF - atrial fibrillation, preventing high blood pressure, as well as strengthening the connection of the heart to the quality and strength of the kidney system. Before we refer to the strengthening of the kidneys later, it is appropriate that, from a holistic point of view, we first list the main symptoms that appear mainly in the third age and include nocturia (nightly urination), itching, lower back pain and sensations, orthopedic problems, walking difficulties, joint problems, problems arising from cardiac arrhythmias, infarction (embolism) which causes a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or a heart attack... and this is because all these phenomena are related to each other.
The most common symptom of middle-aged and elderly people is nocturia (waking up several times at night to urinate - nocturnal urination). Because of the desire to prevent urination at night, the elderly fear and avoid drinking water before bed. They are not always aware that not drinking water before going to bed, and getting up in the middle of the night to urinate without drinking a little water afterwards, is the pathological cause of cerebral infarction that occurs early in the morning, especially in middle-aged and elderly people. In fact, we must immediately clarify that nocturia is not a problem of bladder dysfunction, or as it is called - "irritable bladder". Bedwetting is caused by failure, weakness and aging of the heart's function and heart failure in the elderly, and the inability of the right atrium of the heart to pump blood from the lower body. By the way, this is the reason for the Chinese medical guideline regarding sleeping on the right side. During the day, when we are active, sitting or standing, the blood will flow by gravity downwards. If the heart is not functioning well, then the volume of blood that the heart pumps to the whole body, from the left ventricle through the aorta, is not enough and the pressure in the lower body will increase, so that middle-aged or elderly people will suffer from edema (fluid accumulation) in the lower body mainly during the day. Therefore, when those elderly people lie down to sleep at night, the pressure on the lower body will be relieved and a lot of fluids will also accumulate in the other tissues of the body, because the fluids return to the blood. If there are too many fluids, the kidneys will work hard to filter the fluids and drain them into the bladder, which will cause nighttime urination (nocturia).

Therefore, it usually takes about three or four hours after lying down to sleep for the need to get up and go to the bathroom to urinate for the first time. After that, the fluids in the blood continue to rise, so after another 3 hours they will have to go to the bathroom again. Why is this the pathological cause of cerebral infarction or myocardial infarction? Because after two or three urinations during the night, the amount of fluids in the blood is greatly reduced, what's more, the body continues to lose water through breathing during sleep. Thus the blood starts to become thicker and more viscous, and at the same time the rate of heart activity slows down due to the low metabolism of the body during sleep. Thus, the thick blood together with slow metabolic blood flow, create the necessary conditions for the narrowing of the blood vessels and hence for blockage or infarction in the blood vessels. This is why middle-aged and elderly people almost always have a heart attack or stroke at 5 or 6 in the morning. This pathological condition may of course lead to death during sleep. Therefore, the first thing that needs to be emphasized is that nocturia is not a malfunction of the bladder and it is not the result of an "irritable bladder", but rather a problem of the weakening and aging of the heart. The second thing to note is that it is desirable to drink a little lukewarm water before going to bed, and also that it is desirable to drink a little lukewarm water even after waking up to urinate in the middle of the night. The third thing is that we must train and do moderate and regular physical activity to strengthen the function of the heart. The heart is a sophisticated muscle, which, like any muscle, gets stronger due to strenuous, proportionate activity, and therefore it degenerates from a lack of moderate and proportionate effort.
The ideal way to practice strengthening the heart would be physical practice using the method of thirds. You can find more about this in Efi Kfir L.Ac's article about the natural Chinese treatment for cardiac arrhythmias and atrial fibrillation. Symptoms of urinary incontinence, prostate enlargement and frequent urination even during the day are attributed in Chinese medicine to the kidney system. the renal system The kidney system in Chinese medicine does not only refer to the kidney organ and its function in distilling the fluids in the body. The ancient Chinese doctors apparently mainly referred to the gland that sits on the heads of the kidneys and is called the adrenal gland or by its more common name the adrenal gland. The role of the adrenal gland is to inject adrenaline into the blood according to the needs of the body. Therefore, the kidney system, in Chinese medicine, has a central role in terms of the body's functions and is responsible, among other things: for the hair on the head and its premature graying, for lower back problems, for normal breathing when inhaling air, for menopause (stopping menstruation), for the immune system and the body's resistance, For teeth, for low testosterone, for over-salting food and a craving for salty foods, for knees, lower back, for ankles, for short-term memory, for hearing, for the integrity of the bones of the skeleton (osteoporosis), for decision-making and determination, for high creatinine level, for female fertility and male fertility, for fertilization attempts for multiple miscarriages, for seasonal allergies, for chronic rhinitis, for enlarged prostate (BPH), for normal urination, for impotence and difficulty in sexual function, for night wetting, for sphincter incontinence and urinary incontinence, for severe mental damage due to fears and anxieties, for the third and last trimester of pregnancy, for getting up to urinate Frequent at night (nocturia) and also for the strength of the sexual desire (libido) and the quality of the sperm for fertility.
